03/19/2014 Back To BlogNo one is fully protected from issues with the driveway gate. Even if you provide good maintenance and proper inspection, problems can still arise. The important thing is for you to be able to provide timely automatic gate troubleshooting. Use advice on how to deal with the most common issues in a timely manner.
Timely Solutions for Proper Operation
If the gate does not move and does not even make a sound when you hit the button on the remote or on the gate opener keypad, then the issue is most probably with the motor. In this case, you need to check the breaker, switches and power supply cables to see if the problem is due to power interruption.
If the motor gets power, then you need to check whether it is obstructed by leaves, twigs, pebbles or other debris pieces. If it is obstructed, you need to disconnect it from the power source and use a brush or a similar tool to remove the debris. In case obstruction is not the cause of the problem, then you will need to repair gate motor.
If the gate is changing its direction erratically this is most probably due to obstruction. You need to check the driveway gate track. You have to inspect the wheels and rollers if you have a sliding gate and the hinges if you have a swing model. Sometimes, leaves and nylon straps wrap around these parts and interfere with the proper operation of the opener. The items causing the obstruction simply have to be removed.
If the gate remote does not work properly, the first thing you need to do is to replace the batteries. If this does not help, you should try to reprogram it. For this, you need to follow the manufacturer's instructions. Make sure that the antenna on the motor unit is in good condition.
In case the basic troubleshooting does not work, gate repair may be required.
